Ukraine opened for European low-cost airlines - comments by Oleksandr Sokolov, Director of the Pro-Consulting company's analytical department. UKRINFORM
KYIV, May 14 /UKRINFORM/. Following bankruptcy of Aerosvit Airlines at the beginning of 2013, a wide field for possibilities of European low-cost carriers started in Ukraine, who earlier could not fix on this market due to the monopoly possession of some routes by Ukrainian companies.
Director of the Pro-Consulting company's analytical department Oleksandr Sokolov expressed such an opinion to UKRINFORM, commenting on Spanish low cost company Vueling Airlines, entering the Ukrainian market.
“By results of Q1, 2013, the share of low-cost airlines in total volume of transportation on regular routes grew by 8.2% (from 10.5% in 2012 tо 18.7% in 2013). As of April 2013, the flight schedule to and from Ukraine was approved for seven foreign low-cost air carriers, including Spanish Vueling Airlines," he noted.
In Sokolov's opinion, slight weakening of the monopoly, as well as new low-cost air carriers entering the Ukrainian market, will strengthen competition on this market, which will produce a positive effect for the end user in the form of reduction of ticket prices, including for flights of national companies.
As reported by UKRINFORM, from May 28, 2013, Spanish discounter Vueling Airlines will start flights between Barcelona and the International Airport Kyiv (Zhuliany). This is the third low-cost airlines, with which the Kyiv Airport signed an agreement for aviation services.
